I use AVG 7.5 for my Anti-Virus program. Make sure that you choose the free AVG 7.5. You can get this by going to your search engine and typing in AVG 7.5

Ad-Aware SE Personal is the free program I use to keep Anti-Spyware off of my PC.Like I said, you can use your search engine to fine both of these sites, but make sure that you choose the free ones.

I use Avast for my free anti-virus program. It takes care of some spyware too.

For ad-ware and spyware you can use Adaware from Lavasoft, it works wonders!

If you don't have a firewall, I suggest ZoneAlarm.

If you find money, Norton and McAfee are good, but they do cost money. They may come with free trials though. :-)

download.com has a free trial version of it. But if you really want good free anti-virus get AVG Free fro Grisoft (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1) It is free for home use and I like it way better than Norton.

u can use powerful antivirus such as kepersky or norton antivirus 2007 and panda titanium. this three top software provide powerful protection to your computer. but if u want the normal protection level u can use avg 7.5 or avast 4.7 home edition. but i think avast is better than avg 7.5 because the files database update more frequently than avg 7.5. so your computer get the latest antivirus protection from virus,spyware and adware. moreover this two software is freeware.

Try using AVG antivirus. It offers very good virus protection for free but you have to pay if you want firewall and anti-spyware services.

To compensate that, you can download ZoneAlarm firewall which is also free. Just like AVG, if you want the antivirus and spyware protection you have to pay for those services, but the firewall is free.

For spyware you can use SpywareBlaster. Unlike Spybot or AdAware, this program prevents spyware from being installed in your computer, no scans. For this free version you have to run the updater manually, but if you pay it will get automatic updates.

I would suggest either AVG or Avast. They are both effective, free anti-virus programs for your personal use. They're actually better than Norton, because Norton uses a tremendous amount of system resources such as RAM, whereas AVG and Avast do not. Many people use either AVG or Avast and I'm sure most people will be recommending them.

I would suggest installing AVG free from http://www.grisoft.com/us.homepage. Somewhere on the website there is a free version, but I remember it not being easy to get to when I downloaded it.
AVG, it is used by numerous universities and is free for individual use.
antivirus software in general sucks. Its only as effective as your definitions are updated. Also, virus scanners such as McAfee and Norton tend to bring systems to a halt. I hate virus scanners. If you want to say goodbye to viruses forever, install Linux on your computer.
many people like the free edition of AVG but i personally do not find it reliable, I'd rather go with the free edition of Avast, both are good and I've used both of them but I think Avast is a little better.
Avast %26 AVG both offer ''free'' versions of their antiviruses, and alot of people use them. Just keep in mind - you get what you pay for.
